This project from Garry Knight https://blend.io/project/54e78706093e7e7f2400b1ca really touched me, thank you Garry for sharing it with us.
I wanted to take this composition and make it extremely immersive, "larger than life," and place it onto a conceptual stage like a Cirque du Soleil performance.
In addition to giving my take on the mixdown and mastering this material to achieve that effect, I also replaced the pads with strings, and supplemented the drums and piano.
I ended up rendering this a bit hotter than I wanted, but no dynamic range was harmed in the process :) This is super wide, designed to be super immersive on headphones, or be a wall of sound around you (not "stuck inside the speakers") so much so that mono compatibility is somewhat impaired.
This recording is placed in the Grote of St. Michaelskerk, https://goo.gl/maps/aaX85 via 96k/24bit IR from Hauptwerk.

Release candidate 1

I used the knobs on my maschine for mixing, a little odd but it works. I tried using the push but it kept doing "other" stuff

Only had time tonight for one take, riding the faders. Now has dynamic instead of static mix.

I've heard that the Presonus Faderport works with Live but don't quote me on it. It's a single channel strip with a motorized fader, but you might be looking for something more like a regular desk.

@Garry Knight thanks. You're right -- "I'm so free" is too quiet (I'm still learning how to manage between indicated/measured loudness and perceived loudness -- you know how it gets "quieter" as you add more reverb?) , and to actually be finished I'd need to ride the faders a bit between the piano, strings, vocals, and the sonar sound to make the mix overall more dynamic. I started to do this last night but ran out of time and was getting increasingly frustrated with my nanoKONTROL; I really need to find a motorized fader setup for Ableton...

Excellent work! I love it. You've removed a lot of the repetitiveness and replaced it with interesting sounds - I really like the sound of that big drum fill that occurs 2 or 3 times. For me, one idea that is central to the piece is the phrase "I'm so free" which seems a little quiet in this version, but that might just be my cheap headphones; or maybe it wasn't as important to you; in any case, it's fine the way it is. I found the cymbal blip in my original but didn't find time to fix it in the Assignment version. Anyway, thanks for remixing it and thanks for doing such a great job.
