I used to make my own music back in the late 80s with a Casio CZ-101, a Yamaha DX7, a Roland TR-808, and a Tascam 4-track tape recorder. I did all my sequencing on a Commodore 64, which had just 64 KB of RAM. I forget the name of the DAW. My influences then were Jean-Michel Jarre, Enigma, Kraftwerk, and all of the great, and not so great, synthesizer bands that started something that just keeps on going under various names such as Trance, Electronica, House, and so on. I'm a big fan of uplifting, vocal trance, especially with female singers. My own music tends to be more of the Electronica variety, often with an EDM groove.

Progress:Rough Draft

Seventeen tracks (5 audio, 9 MIDI, 3 group), a MAX for Live Convolution Reverb on Send A, a MAX for Live Exciter on the Vox group track, a drum loop converted to a MIDI track plus a drum rack, a separate drum rack for layered percussion, two bass tracks (top and sub), three lush pads, a piano and a flute, plus plenty of vocal samples and SFX. This one started out as a 32-bar loop that I used for a breakdown in a prog trance track and that I wanted to develop into a complete piece. I thought it would be an ideal candidate for my Assignment 3. It's also being published as track 1 of a new collection of mine called The World. All feedback appreciated, thanks.

Thanks, beatdriver. I couldn't work any other way. It doesn't take long to assign colours, group folders, sends, and so on as you go along. Trying to do it much later in the process, when everything's a mess, is much more difficult.

Thanks for your feedback, John. I added a different Exciter on the track I'm publishing on Soundcloud which made quite a difference to the presence of the piano sound. I didn't have time to come back and change the Assignment version too.

The piano melody is kind of too much over the whole piece, it lacks edge, somewhat dull, could be spiced up a little, maybe higher tempos, find a clear concept and style.

Final version. High-frequency percussion removed or toned down. A couple of drum fills added. Tweaks to the vox. Ready for peer review.

Having problems remixing this one. Having dropped the volume on the cabasa, I find that the hi-hat is still too loud, but it just doesn't come through on my PC speakers and headphones. Can hear it on my tablet, though. So I'm going to have to do a bit more work on it over the weekend.
