Progress:Ready
Assignment 2 for the Ableton Live course. Started borrowing some clips from the Live library (MIDI and audio), some old a cappella background vocals from an old project of mine, warped and pitch-adjusted to match the current composition.
Added some additional MIDI and audio (vocals), and had some fun playing a bit with effects - mostly reverbs and delay. Plus a little automation here and there.
This may one day make it into a full song.

Turns out the noise gate was too aggressive and killing some of the softer vocals.

Well @Carles Barrobés... You do deserve the credit of choosing the right things for the track! Also I do think it's a good project, so why not keeping it in the "to complete" folder for the future ;-)

Alas @Thomas Lopez the main bass line is a MIDI clip courtesy of Ableton, I deserve no credit ;)... maybe one day I'll rework this song fully from original material. Or maybe not.

Replaced bass sound, added gate to remove background noise from the mic.

A little bit of additional mixing... after some tips and Erin's video

Thanks @The Hutch I'll experiment a bit more with compression and reverb in assignment 3. There were some useful starting points for mixing newbies like myself in one of Erin's videos as well.

Thanks @Amanda Stuart that sounds like a good proposal, something I wouldn't have thought off. I may use that in assignment 3.

Very cool! I really like the funky bass, the groove and the drums at the end (kind of John Bonham style :-). Also I personally like the roughness of the vocals, as it fits nicely with the style of the project

I think vocals are so hard to get right - I think that is a short course in itself. After all we know what voices should sound like in a record, whereas instruments can be a 1000s of sounds, tones and fx. I haven't progressed to miked recorded vocals yet! I think compression to even out the highs/lows is a must as is adding reverb but I think also that the song genre and style of the singer might influence what needs to be done. For my assgnt #2 I used a free acapella and trebled it up in root, 3rd and octave with reverb - it sounds OK but needs improvement to sound more Pro. :::: :-) The Hutch https://blend.io/TheHutch :::::

Could try different mic positions (not so close miked, double tracking)? Good groove!

I'd love some tips about how to make the vocals sound better - short of replacing the singer :)
