I did all my sequencing on a Commodore 64, which had just 64 KB of RAM. I forget the name of the DAW. My influences then were Jean-Michel Jarre, Enigma, Kraftwerk, and all of the great, and not so great, synthesizer bands that started something that just keeps on going under various names such as Trance, Electronica, House, and so on. I'm a big fan of uplifting, vocal trance, especially with female singers. My own music tends to be more of the Electronica variety, often with an EDM groove.

This is my entry into the Hive Contest. The version in the Preview is the shorter Radio Edit. The original, longer (8-minute) version is on SoundCloud at https://soundcloud.com/garryknight/hexagon in 192-bit MP3 format and in the project file as Hexagon.wav. Both versions are inside the single .als project file to make editing and mixing easier. The piece consists of 19 tracks, each containing an instance of Hive synthesizer. No other instruments were used. There is an RTF file included in the project folder which explains the effects used and the synthesizer patches used. There is a Patches folder within the project folder which contains the actual .h2p patch files.

Have a listen to Olivia Brown's version of this. She wrote lyrics and sang them beautifully. Hexagon Project

I emailed Blend.io about this and got a great response from Alex K explaining that it was a simple oversight.

Hmm... It seems that my track isn't in the "Collection of all U-He's HIVE Contest Entries". Not that it matters, since I've already bought a full licence, and don't care much for competitions anyway. Strange, though.

"Someone mentioned that the hihats hurt his ears" Surely they didnt know what to say! For me it's perfect, and I can assure you that in my studio I have spared on a lot of things but not on the audio (works wonder). Envy is a mass phenomenon! Keep it up, that's fine! You did a great job buddy, best support!!

Someone mentioned that the hihats hurt his ears. I could barely hear them on my ref headphones. Anyway, I've toned them down. If they're still loud, can someome please let me know, ta.

Sounds awesome! Very full sound frequency wise as well as stereo wise. That synth that plays throughout the track gives it a great chugging feel. Beautiful breakdown as well!

@FrellU: If you don't already have Hive you can use it free until the end of the month and maybe go in for the contest http://blog.blend.io/post/112525799943/make-a-cool-blend-with-u-hes-new-hive-demo-and

@Markus Adams: Jan Hammer? Who's he? :-D You're not the first to notice the unintended similarity. I wanted to use factory presets for the most part to show off Hive. So it was soundmasters Howard Sarr and Aiyn Zahev who Hammered it. :-)

During some late night editing I managed to over-consolidate some clips thereby losing a couple of breaks and a sound effect. Now reinstated. This is the final version. If you've pulled it, you might want to repull it.

We're old enough to remember Jan Hammer ... are we?
