Progress:Rough Draft
Stayed up 24 hours to just get this done. Had some reading to do for more info on chord progressions. Ordered more sound libraries but did not get here in time. I used about 8 or nine midi tracks and 3 audio tracks one for the midi conversion. And I used the Max clap and Brush effect with and added reverb. Used reverb in several places and compression. Used amp on the bass midi track and adjusted it to sound like a pipe being struck. also used auto pan on the Max effect and Compression on the Master output.

Ended up forgetting to post the preview link to the homework page for grading. I was tired after that 24 hours. With this assignment 3 I got the most likes of my assignments. So here is to "LOOKING AHEAD" a somewhat work in progress album title where I hold all of my the favorite beginning compositions. There is much to learn and examine,

Very cool track! Very cinematic. It's like an island dream or cruise boat fantasy. At least that's where it took my mind. Well done. I've traded sleep for music too many times. It's usually very worth it.

It was worth the 24 hours you stayed up. Very nice result.

Noteworthy Thanks to Carles Barrobés, Hot Beer and Spiderhound for their feedback I have taken note and WILL use their advice. If I haven't done so already. There is a lot of enjoyable music being posted. I love music and have over 6500 songs on my ipod classic (nothing is pirated) My wife and I go to Broadway plays on Orlando Florida and in NYC. Here is wishing all of you a good life. One filled with music and good health. Toby Lee on Facebook

Nice. As a recommendation for improvement: the long trumpet line sounds a bit too mechanical (non-human) for two reasons: one is that it is too long for a human to play the whole phrase in one breath :), and the other is the lack of dynamics. Breathing space between sub-phrases and adjusting velocity on notes to create crescendo and diminuendo would greatly improve (or humanise) this. If that is what you're after... I might be wrong about your intentions ;)

Very nice! That trumpet has a great flow! Nice composition, Toby. Sweet flow, and the voices are nice. Stereo field is nice, and so is the tone and gain staging. To be constructive I would suggest break it up a bit, do some trills, bends, legatos, muted staccato notes, throw in a few 16ths and 32nd sequences, some tension and resolution, in your composition. The pace is engaging and steady, of course, but it feels like something about to happen, and it should. I need to take my own advise too, but I ran out time and I decided my next one will be better! Love it.

You've progressed really well Toby, the trumpet does flow. Perhaps some staccato in the trumpet would give a bit of extra feel for some sections.

If I had it to do all over again I would rework the flute to flow like the trumpet. I am still inspecting music compositions ( I hate redundancy) and I want to write for lyrics ( I know I can ) and instrumentals. I have published poetry. Music must pass our own certain criteria or we are not satisfied. I know I am not where I want to be. I hear Elton John and I love his music but I don't want to be Elton John - I want to be me.

whoa! the horn part is just the bomb on this tune! I could totally see this track used as one of those songs that plays behind a scene in a film where ppl load into a car and travel across a few states, with scenery passing by....great job man!

Change of one midi instrument to stacato flute

Changed the velocity randomly to the high hats as suggested by Spiderhound to give it a more natural feel.

Nice composition! That horn sound is great...I love it. To add some additional flavor try altering the velocities of the Hats. ..They sound like they are all at 100% velocity (which can make the sound come across as robotic. When you alter the velocities it immediately injects a more human quality to it). Maybe add a percussion top loop in spots to increase the forward momentum of the song and lead the listener towards a climax. Really nice work here, Toby...your all nighter really paid off. Get some rest!
