Node.js actually provides a runtime environment to execute JavaScript code from outside a browser. NPM, the default package manager for Nodejs is used for managing and sharing the packages for any JavaScript project. So to answer the question, why do people associate Node with backend development? Because if the back end code is written in JavaScript, the servers need a way to run them without a browser. So yes, if you are a back end developer using JavaScript, you are going to use Node. But Node is so much more than that. Running a micro-frontend with a microservices backend in Node.js hasn’t been simple (although there are some best practices out there)–and we still have some things to still tackle–but we have found that the hard work has paid off with our current micro-frontends architecture.
